Much of this collection relates to the Vietnam War. Included are seven letters to Goetzmann detailing the deployment of the 138th Field Artillery of the Kentucky National Guard between November 1968 and July 1969. Also included are briefing maps of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Some maps show artillery positions.

Biographical note: R. R. Goetzmann was an officer in the Nineteenth Field Artillery of the Kentucky National Guard. He later commanded the Twenty-Third Artillery Corps.
